How I Became a Proactive and Customer-Focused Technology Expert
Introduction:
Throughout my career in technology, I have developed a unique set of skills and expertise that have allowed me to deliver exceptional results for my clients and employers. In this blog post, I will share some of my experiences and highlight the key themes that have defined my approach to technology and customer service.
Recovering a Multi-Million Pound Operation:
At Link House Publications Ltd, we faced a significant challenge when IBM upgraded its storage to include parity drive on a System/38. The system manager had been trailing new software called Manage, which kept trying to recover the system from the disk instead of tape. Even the IBM engineers did not know how to resolve the problem. This threatened to cause major financial losses to the company. However, I was able to edit the startup routines for the mainframe and allow the system to restore from tape, preventing a catastrophic financial loss.
Preventing Data Breaches Before They Were a Thing:
In the late 80s, when cyber security wasn't even a term, I prevented a potential data breach at Link House Publications Ltd by ensuring that the directors' secretaries did not throw their old printer ribbons in the trash. This is because the text generated by the ribbons was still visible, and sensitive information could have been leaked. By taking proactive measures, I was able to prevent a potential security breach.
Going Above and Beyond for Clients:
At RGH Associates Ltd, I was asked to "handle the fort" while the staff was away. I used my expertise to handle all the calls in the helpdesk and went beyond the call of duty to look up other calls for the sites and fixed the problems too. When the staff returned, they were impressed that all the tasks were resolved, and Airtours Ltd was so impressed that they provided us with a new contract for their ships.
Building Strong Client Relationships:
During a training session in Turkey, I impressed JMC Holidays trainer by creating a training environment using Net Support Manager that all the machines could be seen. He was so impressed that he recommended my services to his new firm, FirstChoice Holidays Ltd. This led to a new contract, demonstrating the value of building strong relationships with clients.
Conclusion:
My experiences highlight the importance of being proactive, developing technical expertise, and going above and beyond for clients. By taking the initiative, understanding complex systems, and providing excellent customer service, I have been able to deliver exceptional results throughout my career. These skills have not only helped me succeed in my job but have also helped me build long-term relationships with clients, leading to new business opportunities and greater success for my employers.
This is why people turn to me, for a quick and easy solution, to their problems.
